A year ago, Jaya Hickey became the first Mountain View girls golfer to qualify for the Class 3A state tournament since 2019.

Next week at Foothills Golf Course in Littleton, she will be joined by three of her teammates.

A total of 16 golfers from the four Thompson School District programs and Resurrection Christian qualified for their respective state tournaments that will be held next Monday and Tuesday at courses across the state.

The four golfers from Mountain View will be joined by three from Berthoud, three from Thompson Valley, two from Loveland and four from RCS next week at the Class 4A, 3A and 2A events.

The top 84 players from each classification in the iWanamaker rankings qualified for state. The rankings took each player’s best five rounds from the season into account.

The largest local contingent will play in the 3A tournament at Foothills. Mountain View’s foursome there will include junior Hickey, senior Sadie Gallatin, junior Makenna Higgins and senior Amelia Gallatin.

Hickey finished 66th at state last year.

Berthoud will have three qualifiers. Junior Avery Tychsen and senior Madie Kuntz will make their second state tournament appearances while Julia Reed will make her first. Tychsen was 10th and Kuntz 49th at state last year.

Thompson Valley will be represented by senior Izzy Javernick, sophomore Elin Drake and senior Brynn Hawk.

Because all three schools have at least three qualifiers, they can all compete for the state team title. As teams, Berthoud is ranked No. 8, Mountain View No. 15 and Thompson Valley No. 18.

The Spartans were fifth at state last year.

In Class 2A, which will be held at Lone Tree Country Club in Lone Tree, Resurrection Christian will have four qualifiers. All four finished the season ranked in the top 13 in 2A.

Karina Garcia, Addy Moreno, Avery Stockslager and Brittyn Goings will represent the Cougars.

Garcia and Stockslager are seniors while Moreno and Goings are freshmen. Garcia and Stockslager tied for 11th at last year’s 2A state tournament.

RCS is the top-ranked team in Class 2A and has been all season. The Cougars finished the season 12 points ahead of Denver Christian in the rankings as they chase the program’s first state title. They were fourth at state last year.

Loveland will be represented in the Class 4A tournament at The Bridges in Montrose by junior Belyn Downer and junior Hailey McCann.

Downer will be making her second state tournament appearance. She was 45th at state last year.
